CINCINNATI, OH (May 14, 2008) —Reece-Campbell, Inc. recently won recognition for their part in Canstruction, a regional effort to raise food and money for local organizations, Freestore Foodbank and Cincinnati Cooks. Reece-Campbell, Inc. partnered with AIA member Hixson Architects on their 2008 entry entitled “Sumdae,” recognized for the Best Use of Labels. Using nearly 7,000 cans, the team built a structure in the shape of an ice cream sundae--their mission: to “sumdae” overcome hunger.
Between the food items donated for admission to the exhibit and the goods donated from the 10 participating firms, over 66,600 cans of food were collected for the FreestoreFoodbank and $3500 for Cincinnati Cooks.
Reece-Campbell, Inc. and Hixson have partnered in Canstruction for six years and won awards for every year they have participated in the competition. In 2006, the team won the National Award for Structural Ingenuity, an honor which had not been previously awarded in the Cincinnati Chapter.
As winners in the 2008 competition, Reece-Campbell/Hixson team will be entered into the national competition later this month.
